Computer Requirement

Students accepted into the Construction Management program are required to have their own personal laptop computer, mouse, required software, and other equipment as listed in the document below. The computer and other equipment must be ready to use by the first day of class. Be aware that ALL of the software programs we use, teach, and specify are Windows-based. Any problems arising from formatting or running programs on Windows for Mac (Apple) and subsequent interfaces such as Boot Camp or Parallels are solely the responsibility of the student.

Base Requirement: Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 This is an inexpensive, lightweight, 2-in-1 machine with good battery life. This computer should run any required software in the Construction Management program and is designed to be more portable than powerful. It does not have a designated graphics card, meaning it may struggle with advanced or demanding software, including CAD and games.

Better Option: Dell G15-5515 This is a laptop with a dedicated graphics card, meaning it is better suited to run demanding applications like CAD software. It is larger and heavier than the base option and due to the more powerful graphics the battery will not last as long. Students should consider this model if they have an interest in taking any Architectural Technology courses or otherwise would trade more power for less portability (for instance, if you plan to run games.)

Best Option: Dell G16 This is similar to the “better” option but is much more powerful. This computer exceeds what is reasonable for the Construction Management program; a student should consider this model if they have an interest in taking Interior Design courses or wish to use this for other demanding applications like video/photo editing, advanced CAD (including rendering), and to play top-end games at high settings.
